My £50 eBay 2nd hand sofa is coming to the end of its life, I'm sitting in a dip/sunken hole and parts of the leather on the cushions are ripped

I am now looking for a new or new to me sofa, ideally a corner sofa bed sofa so when have friends stay they are not on the blow up bed I currently use for visitors.

I've looked in sofa.com, loaf and found them uncomfortable or too low, i'm 5ft 7inchs

DFS - no way will I buy there

looked in barker stonehouse, posh version of DFS if you ask me!

John lewis didn't have anything I liked and where on the low side

Dunelum - nope

ikea - nope

My current sofa is a Halo 3 seater leather job with a high supportive back, I like it its just died on me. Had it since 2015 not bad for £50!

What brands are well made long lasting? I don't mind 2nd hand, i'm just seeing low sofas that look cheaply made everywhere and I am a bit lost on my search

Ideally:

3 seater, sofabed, corner sofa (fancy a change) and either velvet or a nice rich colour like the navy blue, cranberry or mustard to go with my copy F&B pigeon paint colour

Thanks xx

Furniture Land? Corner Sofa Beds with Storage - Furniture Village

Oak Furniture Land? Oak Furnitureland - Online Store (3 seaters, not corner ones)

We've bought things from both having mostly replaced all the stuff previously from Ikea and M&S. Happy so far (8 years)

    What is the OP's budget?

Charity shops can sometimes have very good furniture arrive, but it all depends on chance. The same for FB marketplace and Freecycle, or even local FB groups where people might list for free so long as you can collect.

We have a G-Plan armchair which is the most supportive and comfortable chair we have. G-Plan also do other models that are more "fashionable" and lower designs, so it can vary even within one manufacturer.

If you have a more generous budget, you might wish to consider Stressless.

I know some people have issues with DFS, but we've bought 3 sofas from them in 20 years and never had an issue either with the sofas or with their aftersales service. Maybe take a look and see if there's something you like then you can check reviews for that specific model.

Look at brands, not outlets, especially if looking second hand. G plan, Duresta, Natuzzi.

DFS - Bought once never again, leather colour started coming off at around 2-3 years looked junk after 4, badly sunken also. Never again expensive junk. Paid half the price from oak furniture land still looks great 12 years later.

That issue with the leather might be down to the leather and not the retailer.

AIUI, bonded leather will last a very short time whereas leather hide will last a life time.

For many years, we always wanted a leather sofa but when we ordered our new sofa at the beginning of the year we found it was difficult to ascertain which "real leather" sofas actually had quality leather hide and which just had bonded leather. There did not seem to be any clarity at any retailer or any brand of manufacturer and also no obvious link between prices and the specification of the leather. The inability to obtain proper clarity on the grade of leather that a sofa would be provided with was outrageous.

We ended up going for fabric to simply avoid the risk / hassle.

"That issue with the leather might be down to the leather and not the retailer."

That's a bit academic in fairness, it's overpriced crap specified and retailed by DFS, ultimately it is the retailer in the case of DFS who supply low grade furniture at a relatively high price.
