Miele WT2670 Washer-Dryer not draining and "waterproof system activated"

Our Miele washer-dryer failed to drain properly today, leaving a couple of inches of water in the drum. We eventually got rid of the excess water by running extra spin cycles, and opened the filter to release quite alot of excess water. The "waterproof system activated" message appeared on the display.

The filter is pretty clean and unclogged, and the impeller wheel at the back of the filter compartment spins freely.

The machine is very difficult to remove from its under-counter location, so we haven't checked the drainage hose yet.

Are there any other obvious things that we should check?

If it comes to getting an engineer out, is it best to contact Miele directly for this, or are they likely to charge an arm and a leg for something that a local firm can do at a much more reasonable rate? The machine is 18 years old, so has served us well!

Check the door seal for damage.

I'd go for a local man if you can find one nowadays. Most that appear on a Google search are national companies pretending to be local.

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I had a Miele dishwasher which recently expired. They wanted an arm and two legs to repair it (if it was not repairable then only a call out fee equivalent to the National Debt of Uruguay). The replacement needless to say is not a Miele.

have you checked the outside drain?
My washing machine has a pressure sensor that means it won’t empty if it suspects a blockage. Turned out to be just a bit of fluff on the outlet pipe where it goes into the drain that made it think the pipe was blocked.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The drain hose and where it discharges to are the most obvious things to check for blockages that will prevent it pumping away.

Start with parts you can access easily and then the pipe behind the machine (and you will need to pull it out to do that properly).

The "waterproof system activated" message appeared on the display.

This might be a clue to the problem, but not sure what that message means ?

We had a similar problem with a dishwasher. It turned out it was a slow leak from the drain hose that dripped onto the tray at the bottom of the machine. This tray had a water sensor that shut down the machine to prevent flooding the area.

According to google (for what it's worth):

The "Waterproof system activated" message on a Miele washing machine indicates that a leak has been detected in the base tray, triggering a safety feature that stops operation to prevent flooding. It is commonly caused by a leaky inlet/drain hose, damaged door seal, oversudsing, or a faulty sensor.

I had this exact same issue in another brand. No parts required but a total strip down of the machine. Directly under the drum and before the pump there is an anti cypher valve. It was clogged up with hair. Total pain.
