Website redirecting - how?

I have 2 domains - one is xxxxx.co.uk and the other is xxxxx.com. It's an absolute pain updating both with FrontPage separately. What I'd like to do is just redirect anyone who enters the xxxxx.co.uk one to the xxxxx.com site and just keep one up to date.

I know it's possible, but could anyone help with v simple instructions. Does it need to be done at the server, or can it be done on the index page?

Thanks

    Are the domains on different hosts? If so, can you point both the domains at the same host so that you only need to have the one page?

    If you need them on different hosting accounts for any reason, then the instructions on this page should help you.

    Which of the methods you use will depend on what your hosting account supports.

    Think I'll have to ask for technical support from my web hosts as this info, though comprehensive, is far too tricky for me!

    Thanks anyway!

    Hi

    You could put a simple redirect page in one of your domains as a possible solution.

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Redirect to My Other Domain</title>
    <META http-equiv="refresh" content="5;URL=http://www.myotherdomain.co.uk"&gt;
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#ffffff">
    <center>You will be redirected to My Other Domain automatically
    in 5 seconds.

    <p> If you are not redirect after 5 seconds click the link below</p>

    <a href="http://www.myotherdomain.co.uk"&gt;
    http://www.myotherdomain.co.uk</a&gt;

    </center>
    </body>
    </html>

    Get both domains on the same host.

    use cpanel domain tools so both domains show exactly the same

    Unfortunately domains are on different hosts.

    Thanks Spire128 - will give your instructions a go!
  • I know you said a previous reply was too tricky for you so you might find this one in the same category, but I find it helpful.

    http://designertuts.com/htaccess-stopping-page-not-found-errors/

    It does go through the procedure step by step but is a bit complicated.

    You should do it on the server with a 301 redirect. Your .co.uk host may do it for a fee or free.

    When I tried to publish my new one-page redirect web, I got this error message:

    Server error: The server extensions were unable to access the file "httpd.conf". Please check the file permissions.

    I've had server extension problems before when publishing, and I don't think everything is configured correctly on my pc. Could this be the problem?

    Hi

    I am not sure, did u publish a std (index.htm) or (index.html) file which is what I was suggesting, which should not cause a problem.

    It looks like the file extention may be incorrect.

    If u still have trouble PM me and I will take a look.
