Trying to transfer a balance from my Nat West Sainsburys credit card to my Halifax credit card

I have been trying to transfer a balance but it won't go through. Tried ringing Halifax and they said they were having a problem with the Nat West Sainsburys transfers and hoped to rectify it, It still won't go through.

Is Nat West part of the Halifax group and this is why it won't go through does anyone know?

Natwest is not in the same group as Halifax. Halifax is part of Lloyds Banking Group (LBG)

From what I understand from a relative who had a similar problem, it is down to the card number on the Sainsbury's card which apparantly is still assigned to the now defunct Sainsburys Bank, rather than Natwest on some LBG systems.

So, to their systems it looks like you are trying to switch from Natwest to Halifax but using a defunct Sainsbury's Bank card and the system doesn't like it so rejects it.

I believe he switched manually over the phone once they understood the problem.

Sainsburys Bank was a joint venture with BoS (now part of LBG) until 2014, what are the chances that there's a bit of code lurking in some mainframe COBOL somewhere that's saying "can't do that….".

It should work eventually I transferred a balance from Natwest Sainsburys card to MBNA (same group as halifax) a month or two ago without any problem

Does the Halifax card have any Money Transfer offers?

If so transfer the money from it to your bank account and pay Sainsbury's off.

That could work but, of all the offers currently available to me, balance transfers are cheaper, and have longer 0% periods, than money transfers.

They still haven't sorted the problem and said they couldn't do it over the phone.
