Kitchen makeover / replacement
Our kitchen is looking tired. We are considering three options:
- Re-fiinishing / repairing / spraying the existing units
- Replacement doors / drawer fronts
- Replacing the kitchen entirely but retaining the existing layout
We have well established local firms in mind for all three options.
Which is the most MSE solution in terms of value i.e. cost / quality / longevity?

Personally, I don't believe in good re-spraying, but this possibly depends on the existing finish.
Regarding (2), quality doors and fronts are likely to cost much more than the units that are relatively cheap.

Unless it is really awful, live with it for a few more years save up and make your next one a quality one that will last ( very MSE!) ....or not if you do not plan to stay

Hi Dave.
How DIYish are you?
What style are the doors - piccie?

Not very DIYish. These doors / drawers.

The doors are of a style that will take a colour change, but I'm not suggesting you go this route.

Why's that? What are the problems with color changes please?

Sorry - it's a viable option, tho' is unlikely to be as durable as the existing finish.
I phrased it poorly - I just meant I wasn't going to specifically recommend it over any other option.
I think the starting point would be to get quotes, and then you'll know if it's worth considering.
You'd need to be confident that a colour change would give you the result you'd want.

Ball park estimates are £2,000 for the refinishing / spraying, £3,500 to replace the doors / drawer fronts and £10,000 for a new kitchen.
We have lived in the house for 20 years. We plan are to stay here for another three years and then decide whether to stay here forever or retire to a new location.

Yikes. All three quotes are bigly.
Do the first two quotes include new worktops? If so, it should be nearly as effective as a whole new kitchen at a quarter-third the price.
