help me do a will
Hello Hope you are all well. How do you go about finding solicitor to write will and do POA I realise its free will writing month but happy to pay.
We want mirror wills and POA sorting and we want to keep the wills at home. Is there an association that we can check for a local accredited one? I did a quick search on MSE site but could not find any thing as to how, apart from saying you should do one.
Its a jointly owned house (paid off) however savings and bank accounts are all separate. ( we tried to combine once but lloyds would not let us as computer said no twice and I suspect its because I was repossessed in 1980s)
Also do you have expression of wish form with ISAs? i suspect not.
What can we expect to pay?
Hubby has a pension platform with 200k drawing 18000pa I have a define benefit pension £6500pa we have done Expression of wish for these.
Savings including ISAs 200k
We are not drawing SP yet as only in our early 60s both have full amounts on forecast
Thank you

You really should not try and penny pinch on such an important document as a will. By all means DIY your LPAs but you should be sitting down with a local solicitor to draft your wills.
No you don’t make an expression of wishes with ISAs unlike pensions they are part of your estate and are covered by your will.
Do you have children? If not have you thought about who your executors should be? If you do are any of them from a previous relationship?

We paid £200+VAT each (so a total of £480) for a pair of mirror wills just before Christmas. We wanted someone local so just searched for solicitor offices in our town and then looked at their reviews. In principle I could have checked the Law Society of Scotland site but since a lot of high street solicitors also act as estate agents here, I was familiar with the firm names from previous house buying.
We initially planned to go with a firm that had a list of costs on their website (something that I think should be encouraged) and a helpful questionnaire to fill in. However, that firm didn't respond to our enquiry so we ended up using a firm that we'd previously used for conveyancing.
The solicitor was extremely helpful in going through all the possible scenarios, including ones that we hadn't thought of.

The Free Wills month website will show if there are any solicitors local to you participating.

But also dont want to overpay.
