Small fault bump impact on car insurance and best solution?
Hi all,
Just had a very unfortunate very minor bump with another car and they got a quote of about £600 for the repairs (small scuffs and headlight crack).
I have a long claim free history, £125 excess and premiums are around £150.
Ultimately I believe the claim has to be legally reported even if I was to pay for the repairs myself. So would probably bump up the premium for an at fault accident anyway.
Thing is working out the best solution. Is it worth paying £600 out of my own pocket still or would the premiun increase likely not be that significant by comparison?
I have about 25 years NCB which is also protected.
Please can someone advise?
Many thanks

Does your current insurance actually record you no claims as 25 years ?
Likely to effect premiums for 3 years
Luckily they is no claim for injuries

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to check the number of years actually recorded as likely 9 years or something.
Hoping the increase won't be too much as I only do about 5000 miles a year too and like you say, no injuries as it was a parked car.
I had been enjoying low premiums for years now at well under £200.
Hoping one claim in 22 years isn't considered awful as it is such minor damage.

You say there is damage to the third party vehicle, what about your own?
If it's only TP damage then there is no excess to pay. With a protected NCD your NCD won't be impacted but the premiums will go up just not as much as if you had no NCDP
It's always difficult to predict the impact of claims, insurance is often worked out with multipliers so things compound. If you do the right thing and declare the incident irrespective of if you claim or not then the difference between a non-claimed fault accident and a claimed fault accident is unlikely to be very significant given your very low premiums. The only one consideration is that your premiums are so low that your current provider may not be interested in you anymore and others who are may have a higher minimum premium… my last Motor client didnt sell any policies under £250 so even before your accident their quote would have been much higher.
