Driving Licence
My Brother in Law sent his Driving licence for Renewal (75years) to in to DVLA begin of Jan 2026
End of Feb he rang Swansea to make enquiries' as to new ones whereabouts but the Staff refused to talk to him as they said his Post Code doesn't exist, he has only lived in his house 35 years
He has been told they cannot open files neither can line manager
It can only be done by post so am presuming only the Post boy has permission to access these Files
He has accessed his own records on line and can see that according to their records the Post Code is correct as accesses his file but added is the words Graig Road which was removed 35 years ago after builders had completed by the house builders
He is now in a situation were his licence expires in 2 weeks time and his letter giving the information taken from their files will not be opened for 3 weeks
Been to MP but not holding breath
Is there anything else he can do ?
He lives in rural area and his car is essential and he doesn't want to break law

DL renewal is usually online at 70 and 3 yearly thereafter. Why post in this case?
Renew your driving licence if you're 70 or over - GOV.UK
unless
You cannot use this service to renew a C1 (medium-sized vehicles) or D1 (minibus) entitlement - you must do this by post.
applies but one can continue to drive while the application is with DVLA for up to 12 months…
Surely as a grown adult B-i-L is capable of sorting this himself? Invoking his MP as a last resort, perhaps?

As long as he doesn't have medical conditions that have changed, he can keep driving while the license is with the dvla.

In hindsight yes it would have been better
He doesn't know whether they have received his old licence as they wont tell him
I said I would help him out as he's still an extremely busy man

Driving while DVLA has your licence
You can drive while your licence is being renewed if you meet all the following conditions:
- you have the support of your doctor to continue driving
- you had a valid licence
- you only drive under the conditions of the previous licence
- your application is less than a year old
- your last licence was not revoked or refused for medical reasons
- you’re not currently disqualified
- you were not disqualified as a high risk offender on or after 1 June 2013
Read the guidance ‘Can I drive while my application is with DVLA?’ for more information.
