May i correct you, they aren't living beyond their means, they had savings which went towards the buying of the house, i think it paid for solicitors fees and what not, they used their savings for larger bill payments and bigger purchases.

The only difference to their income is the loss of benefit to pay their rent.
But they won't have rent to pay, so why would they not be able to pay their heating bill as before?
