To be doing the sofa to tip runs, the businesses offering the service still need to have Waste Carriers Licence to be legal.

I see people advertising on social media all the time, £60 to take a sofa etc.

I'm sure you do - but have another look at the site you referred to in an earlier post https://www.leeds.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/get-rid-of-unwanted-items#wastecarrier

Those are quite cheap, but that does not include Labour, so the final price will not be cheap. But disposing of metal would surely be £0 since it has a value. I can see myself getting a job that pays by the hour, but recycling waste does appeal to me. It could be a sideline, but commercial insurance costs may be a problem.

I don't think the penny has dropped. According to the Leeds council site, those are the minimum costs a waste carrier is charged to dispose of waste legally. You would be charged that amount, and would need to make a charge to the customer on top of those prices to cover your licensing fee, the fuel and running costs for your van, insurance, your time…

But disposing of metal would surely be £0 since it has a value.

I'm afraid there's no 'surely' about it. If you look again at the list from which I've quoted, scrap metal costs £20 to dispose of up to 200kg of the stuff.

Not quite the same thing as waste disposal. How 'handy' are you? Do you think you could make a go of upcycling and selling on, along the lines of BBC's Money for Nothing?

I have weighed in scrap metal in the past, an example of me loving to recycle, they pay you a small £££
