Breakdown Cover - who would you recommend?

You haven't told us how old the car is! I think you will just have to go through all their websites to find which will cover your car, however old it is. You will get good and bad reviews of all the breakdown companies. The only one I've ever used is Volvo Assistance who were great, not a lot of use if you don't have a Volvo of course. I'm now with Green Flag because they are cheap, I hope not to need them.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1 -
Autoaid may be worth a look - they charge slightly more if the car is older than 15 years, but they can still be a reasonable option.
GEM is also worth a look, they don't have an age limit on vehicles.
Obviously, check the T&Cs to make sure it'll cover you for your specific needs, but I've used both of those two companies over the years with no problems.

It's more about what your needs are and then getting price.
There are some where you pay for recovery up front then claim the money back but that may not work for someone without the means to pay for the recovery. Others you dont pay a penny beyond the premiums. You can save money by taking on an excess or a cap on the number of calls you can make. Some think thats good and others bad.
Service, in my opinion, is always going to be an element of luck. No matter who you are with there is a finite number of recovery vehicles and if you have the bad luck to break down on a day with a lot of their other customers in the same area you will have a long wait. You similarly can break down next to one of their agents as they finish off their last job and so you are seen instantly.

The cheapest as you will probably never need to use it unless you drive a banger.
Also keep a battery booster in the car as the 12 v battery is the most likely thing to fail nowadays.0 -
I have personal cover with Aviva. It's really RAC cover with an Aviva badge stuck on, so you'll get the same service as an RAC member.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
