I guess there is a difference between a device which is in regular use and kept uptodate and one which is left disconnected and not updated. I did once make the mistake of buying a 2nd hand tablet which had obviously been stored unused for a long time and I couldn't update the OS or the Web browser, so eventually binned it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do love these forums! I've contacted ebay but issued a returns label in the mean time. Will see if they decide to return it.

That made me smile. 😺 My brother had a Commodore 64 and sold it to me when he upgraded. I didn’t really get much use out of it so when I had a car boot sale, about 35 years ago, I took it along and someone gave me £25 for it. I was gobsmacked
