Washing machine man says sink blocked but water draining ?!

so confused

Had the washing machine man out managed to get it sorted and working

he said the sinks blocked but the water in the sink seems to be wooshing away no issues . He’s cleaned out the pump etc

Going to put some unblocker down tonight but slightly confused … do I need to just get a plumber if the block is not visible and the water is flowing fine ?!

And what exactly problem was it?

If the sink waste pipe is really blocked, water from machine just goes up to the sink instead. Post a photo of your under-sink plumbing.

Also, you can disconnect the drain hose from the spigot under the sink and try draining the machine into a bucket instead to see if it's the machine or the waste pipe to blame.

my sink was causing my dishwasher not to drain. The sink appeared fine. It was where the washing machine hose was connected to the drain under the sink that was blocked by fat I had put down the sink, I no longer do that.

Did he say your sink is blocked, or was blocked - and now fixed? You say he got it working ok.

If you want to dismantle the sink waste as a DIY task, we can guide you through it - it's very satisfying :-)

    Completely bonkers.

Er, I mean the repair guy…

It doesn't make sense - if the sink is 'completely' blocked, then how was he able to test the W/M? What did he connect the hose to? He may have meant the 'completely blocked drain needed sorting'? You may need to call him up :-)

Were you there as he worked? Could you see what he did? Did he say anything like, "I only repair appliances - I don't unblock drains…"?

Does the W/M hose go into its own vertical white plastic standpipe, or does the hose go through to the sink waste and join to it via a spigot?

If the sink and washing machine are now both draining properly I wouldn't worry. I'm in agreement with @WIAWSNB that he probably meant 'needed unblocking'.

Sounds like he just wrote a report of what the problem was, before he fixed it - "completely blocked drain needs sorting".

Here's a fun idea, really whacky I know, but how about asking the 'washing machine man' what he meant?
