Making people redundant

Hi I've just bought a business as its ecommerce I'm moving it closer to home 35miles away, there are 3 employees all been there 5 years plus,what's the best and cheapest way round this ?

    If you've already bought the company then options are potentially already closed, you should be considering these matters before buying so you can structure the deal to your benefit.

    Have you had any conversations? Are the staff willing to commute? Could they work remotely?

    What are you doing for employees if you get rid of these people? Getting more closer to home? Doing it yourself?

    Have you checked their contracts of employments? Do they have any enhanced redundancy rights?

    Your probably now more in a place of avoiding tribunals for not following the redundancy processes properly than being able to avoid their statutory/contractual redundancy payments.

    Rarely would I buy a company… buy their brand, stock, website, IP etc sure but not the company itself as it comes with all the liabilities.

    35miles is potentially a commutable distance for some - is your intention to make people redundant regardless or would you retain the current staff if they were willing to commute?
