EDF Energy - probate

I am an executor of a will. Probate has been applied for but not granted yet - a caveat has been put on the application.

EDF energy will not allow me to make any changes to the tariff that the property is currently billed under. Apparently I can only change tariff once probate is granted which could be some time. The property is a holiday let - so I have no control over power usage.

Does anyone know how I can get around this problem?

There is a sub board on here for wills / probate etc it may be better moved there, but I know it's down to the organisation and how they interpret anything.

Why do you want to change the tariff, specifically?

Thanks for your comments - in response

    1. I have managed to make changes with other energy suppliers…EDF just don't seem to want to play ball
    2. I want to change to a cheaper tariff that will save the estate money (currently a PAYG tariff)…it is an ongoing business and will continue to be used as a holiday let

    Thanks

Are you sure you'll save money vs. a PAYG tariff? The cap on PAYG tariffs is a touch lower than on credit tariffs these days.

I can't be sure I will save money - it is just that when the bill comes it says you could save money if you…and then gives details of the tariff/how much can be saved

If you're going through probate, be careful about switching to a long term fixed price tariff that has exit fees.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
