Help with an Outstanding PC letter received today for alleged PC in 2024!

SCENARIO

We have just received a DCB Legal letter today, which is dated a week old already.

The letter (attached photo) is saying we have an outstanding balance of £170.

This is the first letter we have received; however, we understand from reading other posts that it is usually £100 / then an extra £70 gets added by them if it was not paid quickly.

The address of the offense is not local, and whilst we have been there before, it was visited in July 2024 – it is now March 2026!

We moved house 3 months after the alleged offence date, and we updated the DVLA with the new address details soon after moving (still in 2024).

We’ve read the newbie guide, and several other posts about these bandits, but we haven’t managed to find an example/ scenario like ours yet.

From reading other help requests, we now understand that this intimidating language is very ‘normal’, and things like threatening court action and extra costs is how they operate.

REQUEST

Could one of the experts here please offer some initial advice on how to deal with this, our gut tells us it is just wrong and are questioning if this is even an authentic or legal letter.

Apologies if this is covered somewhere else previously, our searching didn’t find it. So even if it has been, then a pointer in that direction would be very helpful, thanks in advance.
