Yes they refunded both the Slovakian and French return postage. Sorry to hear that they are playing hardball with you for things that you can't control. Perhaps try an email to the UK Executive Team explaining that there seems to be a lack of understanding in France of the issues you are facing. After all, Amazon UK say:

"Amazon Europe Core SARL, Amazon EU SARL and/or their affiliates (Amazon) provide website features and other products and services to you when you visit or shop at Amazon.co.uk (the website)…"

Their office in London is named London Branch of Amazon EU SARL.

Alternatively write to:

Amazon EU Sàrl

38 avenue John F. Kennedy

L-2338 Luxembourg

You've still got options though it will probably take a little longer.
