Good to Go and Avanti travel insurance!
Last week I tried to get a travel insurance quote for the world cup with Good to Go. I have a European yearly policy with them. As I was going through my medical conditions for my new policy. The person asking the questions claimed that she needed to update my current policy because new things had come to light and I might have to pay more for my current policy. I protested and asked to speak to a manager because I had declared everything. She ignored me and continued to update my current policy. I had to scream down the phone to say cancel the policy because I will not be using it again. She eventually claimed to have updated my policy and there was nothing more to pay. I felt as though I was speaking to scammer. I had declared everything when I took out the initial policy.
I then called Avanti. I had a policy with them recently for a trip to Australia. When I was given my quote of over £2000 (five time the amount I paid for Australia over laST cHRISTMAS) I tried to cut the call the call short saying there was no way I could afford that sort of money. The lady giving me the quote then said a yearly insurance policy would only cost £1600. I again said I was not prepared to pay that sort of money and tried to cut the call.
I then asked for the telephone number of the organisation the gives out the names of companies that cater for people with medical conditions. She flatly refused to give it to me
I was then the victim of the lady calling me a liar. She tried to say that should answer all the questions correctly. She also claimed if I went to another company I would have to tell them everything. She was once more questioning my honesty.
I have a piece of paper given to me by my doctor. On it is a list of all my conditions together with a list of my medications. I have told both companies everything on those lists. However, every time I told the lady from Avanti the answer to her question she would try and manipulate the question so that she could add more information to the quote that does not appear on the letter from my doctor.
I eventually closed the call. when I put the phone down I realized that she had not given me chance to tell her I have a discount code Winter20 If she had given me the chance and the £1600 quote had gone down buy £300 I might start to um and ar. However. I don't think I could believe her when she said the yearly policy would cover another trip to Australia. When I took out the initial policy I was told I could not have America and Australia on the same policy.
So it looks as though the insurance companies have joined FIFA in pricing the ordinary fan out of the world cup. I will join the 10,000 England fans not going.
You would think that one insurance company would take the initiative and give a fair and reasonable price to the 10000 England fans now not going. How would they benefit? Well England fans are loyal and every two and four years they would buy from such an initiative company. I know that won't happen but I would like to see both Good to Go and Avanti listen to the conversation that I had yesterday. They might ask themselves are those two people who I spoke to worthy of working for their company's

You sound like a nightmare, screaming at people down the phone. You may find you get a better outcome if you are civil.

World cup is a high risk event, so ins is never going to be cheap. Even more so given where it is & the massive distances involved.

I just checked, and the insurance cost for an annual policy covering the US for me and my family is the same this year as it was last year, so the World Cup makes no difference.

It nay be different if buying a single policy for the dates relevant to the World Cup match.

The issue may have been caused by whoever took the medical information previously not listing a condition despite being informed of it. That could happen if the call handler knew the reported condition wouldn't affect the cost of the policy. They shouldn't have done that but it is possible.
The new call handler would then correctly add the condition, but would have informed the OP, given the chance, that it wouldn't affect the policy cost.
My travel policy with my bank has a list of conditions which don't need to be declared, but if you have just one condition which does have to be declared you have to declare all conditions. A couple of years ago they removed 'hip replacement' from the no declare list but there was no additional charge. Neither I nor the call handler could make sense of that. It's just creating more work for everybody.
Moral of the story? Stay calm and civil. Just answer the questions. The call handler doesn't decide what questions they need to ask.

Other companies are available.
How do you know 10,000 fans are not going because of high travel insurance?
Do they all have the same medical conditions as you have?

Nope, just checked and I'm getting very similar prices for a three week holiday to the US in June, July, August, September and October. The world cup has no impact.

Yes civility is always best but sometimes the person you are talking to is on a mission or following a script or whatever and just not listening. There have been a number of times when I've had to ask people to stop talking so I can finish what I'm saying. It works. Sometimes. I have had to raise my voice as well when they simply will not stop talking over me.
On the other hand today I was talking to a lovely woman at Staysure who did a great job of listening to me and helped me renew my policy.

Read the newspaper. The F.A have not been able to sell their allocation. England are noted for their ticketless fans also.
