Smart Meter change

Hi Everyone, looking for help or peoples previous experience, maybe even Martin himself can help? My partner and i have a smart meter but according to our energy supplier its an economy 7 type.

We have asked for it to be taken out of Economy 7 mode and have been told that its not possible, we would need to have the smart meter removed and a new smart meter installed. Not a problem as such but we have also been told that we would have to pay the cost which would be £157.86.

We would like to know whether this is all correct or is our energy supplier trying to make money out of us?

Many Thank In Advance Everyone

    Smart meter Make and Model?

    Energy Supplier name?

Almost certainly any E7 meter can be billed on a single rate tariff by adding the Peak and Off Peak Registers together… Smart or Dumb meter… assuming the supplier can (as they must now) continue to take both register reads.

Other more expert than I will be along shortly.

Ok, so you are being billed on an E7 tariff, day/night rates.

E7 was normally for folks with storage heaters, cheaper night tariff, what are your heating arrangements, gas?

So my heating arrangements are gas combi boiler, we have just had 2 water tanks in our loft removed neither was powered at all also had a hot water cylinder removed as previous boiler was old fashioned condenser style. No storage heaters have been in the property since we moved in and wasn't in place prior to us moving in.

AS mentioned, most suppliers are happy enough to bill a single rate tariff by adding the registers together on an E7 meter, so it really shouldn't be beyond the bounds of possibility for them to do this where you have a smart meter. I'd suggest you confirm the meter type, and your supplier details as Rodders suggested, which might help people make better suggestions.
