Postage Policy .. pointless

I just revised an existing listing and at the end was a warning which read ..

"Looks like something is missing or invalid. Please fix any issues and try again.

Postage policy"

I selected my 'normal' policy but there was a note below which reads..

"Simple Delivery will override your domestic postage policy"

So .. what's the point in asking for a policy, when their policy overrides it anyway ?

It's like saying .. what do you want to eat, then saying .. you'll get whatever we make

    The site is a shambles.

Listed 42 items and then for the 43rd one, using the exact same template with nothing changed, it insisted on me paying a 35p listing fee.

Now they've all sold it's charging me different simple delivery postage rates for buyers who have bought multiple items, yet their orders are the exact same size, weight and service (Evri).

The reason is that an awful lot of Large letter items now have the custom postage enabled. but until the seller states their own postage policy, ebay don't know whether item is being considered a LL or parcel. The ability to use custom postage by identifying a LL with your own postage options is what a great many sellers wanted.

If you are a private seller then 35p is a listing fee if you exceed your free allowance - which admittedly is pretty difficult as a private seller, it might also be that a second category has been accidentally enabled.

As for postage, new listings are up to seller to choose, if these are SD items you need to open the SD options as quite a few times I've noticed ebay opt for a 2kg parcel, not a 1kg parcel - but this is easily identified before clicking to list as the postage charged to the buyer is shown before you confirm a listing. It's always best to keep an eye on that final postage cost as it's a nudge to ensure ebay haven't decided item is heavier than it is.

My only concern here is you mention a template and numerous items , are you a business seller as that would be different as then you would actually enter your own postage costs?

Also of course you mention you're being charged, so that means assuming these are SD items that you are selling with free postage, it might be that if a buyer is multiple items that ebay are combining postage.

Basically though nothing should come as a shock, listing fees are easily seen and unless things have changed any thing over and above the free listing for a private seller will have it identified what you are payng for before you confirm. Likewise for postage, it shows what the charge is before you list.
