Go Outdoors - Annual Membership enducement
Comments

I have never purchased from Go Outdoors on line but, when purchasing instore, the membership and the item can be purchased together and the item is at member's price.
It seems to be usual at Go Outdoors that the discount for just buying one thing is higher than the cost of the membership.
I don't understand why they adopted such a complex approach.

Apologies, @eskbanker. I think I've found the part of the website you're referring to?
'You can buy a GO Outdoors Membership online or in store, either on it’s own or when purchasing other items. Membership lasts for 12 months and is non-refundable
When bought online, you will automatically pay the Member’s Price for any items you order at the same time as buying your membership.'

I don’t think this type of thing is exempt from the CCRs, supply of service in cancellation period doesn’t prevent cancellation, merely for the consumer to pay for the proportion they have used somewhat £5 / 365?
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/regulation/36/madeTerms seem misleading so right to unwind contract under DMCC.
I think Go Outdoors have several websites with varying prices, always worth looking around.

To get you to be a member, gain personal info, send marketing.
Another clothing company has a member program, free but you have to stay subscribed to emails to keep the membership.
Of course the RRPs are made up, they run constant “sales” and any member prices are probably the going rate….
I assume GoOutdoors is similar with their members prices:
https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/products/berghaus-womens-maitland-gore-tex-waterproof-jacket-purple-094436
So called retail price £225, member £165https://www.blacks.co.uk/products/berghaus-womens-maitland-gore-tex-jacket-purple-094436
Same company under a different name, apparently marked down from £225, but £165 for everyone…
It’s all a load of nonsense, the coat is £165 that’s that.
If you buy from GoOutdoors you’ll pay £5 more for the privilege of a so called discount. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces3 -
I am inclined to agree their membership is a bit of a con, for similar but slightly different reasons.
We were in store to purchase a tent, it was near closing time on a Sunday. We liked the one on show, but couldn't find it on a shelf to take to the till and purchase. It had a heavily discounted membership price. We looked on our phones on their website to see it was in stock at another store, but due to the timing, we wouldn't be able to get there before closing. The website also said there was 1 left in stock in the store we were in - so we looked all over for this last tent (on our own, no help from staff), to no avail.
We were encouraged to buy a membership in store, then go online and order the one available at another store, so we did. We got home and that very evening, when going online to buy this tent using our new membership, the order would never process. The next day, the tent was unable to be bought at all, seemingly out of stock everywhere.
2 months later, still with our membership that we hadn't used, we ordered another member-price tent from them online. 2 days later the tracking information said it was out for delivery, but it never arrived. 4 days later we ring GoOutdoors customer service, apparently the courier (Evri) had said the package was too heavy, so Evri returned it to the depot, and GoOutdoors could only give us a refund, not a replacement. It was only a 4 man tent, it couldn't be bigger than a cabin bag, and weighed maybe a few kilos? So we're getting a refund, but certainly not ordering from them again. So a waste of a membership that has led to 2 failed attempts to get a simple tent.

I suspect the 1 tent in stock in the store you were in was the display tent.

I think we came to the same conclusion, although 1 or 2 staff members were sure we'd find it: "if it says there's 1 in stock it must be here somewhere, you just have to keep searching" 🙄

I have had some good deals from them. As always if you price check first then buy from whichever is reputable and cheap, the card can be worth it. Just don’t presume it will always be better.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.0 -
This dual pricing system is becoming more and more common. It's no different really to the customer loyalty cards the various supermarkets now have. The Go Outdoors card does cost a fiver but the price differences can be massive. It's still worth checking to see if the same item is available from other sources on-line to get a true sense of the potential saving.

I'm sure they do have good deals, it's just they have sister sites which tend to offer the same pricing without the membership. In addition, today Go Outdoors 5% Topcashback, Millets 6%, Blacks 12%.
That fiver is look less and less in terms of value.
