I thought my Fix was supposed to get cheaper on 1st April 2026!

"As I understand it, we'll still pay the levies, just not via the energy bills, but via general taxation."
Not exactly.
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme is being scrapped on 31st March 2026.
This is the part that many small suppliers don't fund anyway, and represents about 40% of the total reduction expected on April 1st

I've have not dug into the detail as there's nothing I can do about it. However, I would be very surprised if anyone sees a fall of unit prices if they are in the middle of a fixed price contract in April. I suspect if they see reductions, it will be via their standing charge.

Prepare to be very surprised.

I literally just flicked over to my supplier's site.
If you’re on a pay monthly fixed-rate tariff
Your prices will decrease on 1 April in line with the levy reduction.
Perhaps it might be different for other suppliers, I suppose.

From the EonNext on line account page on a fixed tariff
And from their blog

ECO is shutting so strictly correct - arguably in disgrace - but the work of improving efficiency isnt - so the costs aren't disappearing.

And the details of how to get the new warm homes grants are not yet published, although you can apply for the Local Grant via council who will direct you to energy agent (for those on low income but not welfare benefits) and you may get lucky (funds currently rolled out over a few years depending on postcode, many more people than funds) - but that is for solar and heat pump combo rather the new solar/battery combo, no clarity on whether applying now will apply to the latter as well as the former. The local grant took over from eco4 flex, the major difference energy agents are no longer able to extort extra cash out of applicants to top up the grant.
