Ebay fake tracking information and closed case
Hi
I recently ordered an item from ebay (paid by credit card), and a day later I got a message (through ebay) from the seller telling me that they could not deliver to my location (Northern Ireland). I replied to them asking for a refund since they could not complete the order.
They did not cancel the order, but asked me to instead. By this time the 'item not received' option was available so I reported it as not having been received.
I woke this morning to an email to tell me that the seller had updated the postage information, and another email to say that as they had "provided tracking information that shows the item was delivered to your address" that the case had been closed in their favour!
I looked at the Fedex tracking link that they have provided and it says that it was delivered to my town (but no mention of my address, when I try to submit an enquiry, it will not recognise my address), and says it has been signed for by a name I have never heard of.
I have appealed this with ebay, but just wondering has anyone here experienced this before and what my choices of winning this appeal are.
I have attached the downloaded tracking document to the appeal, with no address showing, and also screenshots of the emails from the seller telling me that they cannot delivery to my address, and also showing my asking for a refund.
Thanks

This seems to come up a lot recently. The thing in your favour is that the tracking does not recognise your postcode as the delivery address. Ebay should realise that the tracking number is false. Either it is for another sale or it is just junk sent to generate a proof of delivery against an INR claim. Sadly being FedEx rather than Royal mail or evri (which ebay use for simple delivery) ebay will take longer to confirm what you are telling them.
What was the item value and what kind of seller was it?

Bank, chargeback for non receipt of goods.

I believe it's come up before that proof of delivery (even to a different address) will cause chargeback to fail.

It has & it's me that raised it. But it is always worth trying. Retailer has to reject & ebay may not, as they may simply redebit seller.
You also need to know that chargebacks have no legal standing, they are simply card regulations. So losing party can go legal to reclaim funds.

Hi
Thanks for the replies, ebay has actually reversed the decision as they saw from the screenshots that the seller had offered a refund but not given it, and also that they did not deliver to my address.
It wasn't a high value item (£17) but I still wanted the refund that I was entitled to
Here's the appeal outcomeWe reviewed your case again and changed the original outcome. We've issued you a refund. You should receive it in 3-5 working days.We reviewed your case again and changed the original outcome. We've issued you a refund. You should receive it in 3-5 working days.
We changed the outcome because the seller agreed to send you a refund and didn't issue it.

That's an interesting reason for refunding, not that you didn't receive the item (which they should be able to see as they have the tracking number and your postcode) but a refund is a refund.

I bet that's a refund from eBay, not from the seller's pocket, who will keep the money from the sale.

You could be correct, their email says:
"We’ve changed the outcome of your case. We're sorry you had a problem with your purchase.
After reviewing this case, we decided to refund you for this purchase. We did this because the seller agreed to send you a refund, but then never issued it.
Here's a summary of your refund. You should receive it in 3-5 working days."
Not an ideal outcome, but as savergrant says, a refund is a refund!
