Selling/ sending to France
I have had this email from Royal Mail, I am confused, my items are £10 each and sent as a letter size, do I need to do anything?
I have already stopped selling/sending to USA …..
Dear Sir/Madam,
From 1st March 2026, the French Government is introducing a small parcel tax (Taxe sur les petits colis/ TPC) for packages with a value of €150 or below sent from outside the EU to France, Monaco, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion. This small parcel tax is applicable for items destined for France regardless of carrier.
The new €2 tax applies to each item classified by HS code within your parcel and not per parcel. This is paid by the person responsible for import VAT. Parcels containing Gifts (C2C) whose total value is €45 or below are unaffected by this change. Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion have a €22 or below exemption for B2C/B2B items.
Please note for France, Monaco, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion a 6 digit HS code (e.g 401199) is sufficient, for all other French overseas regions and departments at least 8 digits are required.

It is very clear it is the person "importing" who pays the charge. Unless you are shipping DDP Incoterms nothing for you to bother about.

How are you selling? If its via a platform like eBay then typically the market place has to deal with the taxes in the same way as someone outside the UK selling into the UK.
Increasingly countries are requiring the sender to deal with taxes on low value parcels, the UK requires sellers (or market places) to deal with UK VAT for parcels under £150 sold into the UK from outside.
Europe has its IOSS system for the same.

I think I might wait till I sell one to France and take the hit if necessary, then reassess selling there.
The rate things are going with foreign posting it won't be worth the hassle soon…..
