Warm Home Discount mess
I switched from Tomato before being moved to British Gas under the solr scheme.
I received a letter stating I was eligible for a warm home discount of £150 paid to my supplier on 24th Aug '25 (Tomato).
I switched to Fuse myself straight from Tomato. I have spoken to Fuse and British Gas asking who is liable to pay the WHD, they each say each other!
I have written to the WHD scheme and they responded stating it is indeed British Gas' responsibility to pay it, I wrote to British Gas including a copy of the letter from the WHD scheme and British Gas have responded stating it is Fuse Energy's responsibility!
I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall here!

EDF advise this……(I am only quoting EDF as they supply me, but I'd have thought the rules are similar between suppliers)
If you're eligible for Core Group 1, Core Group 2 or Core Group Scotland, your £150 rebate gets paid by the company who was supplying your electricity on 24 August 2025.
If you applied for the Broader Group Scotland rebate with EDF, you still need to be live on supply with us on the day we pay you the £150. If you change supplier before we provide your rebate you will need to apply with your new electricity supplier.

Yes that's the whole problem, Tomato is no longer and even if there is any money left from their operations, getting it would be extremely difficult. There are bigger creditors to fry before former customers being owed the WHD.

We've been here before:
Whoever your correspondent at British Gas may be, it looks like they got it wrong. You might have to get back to the WHD help people again to persuade them to educate BG about their SoLR responsibilities in this respect.
I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.1 -
I have a complaint in with British Gas at the moment. It's going slowly unfortunately (as you'd expect from BG), but I'm sure we will get there in the end.

Hi,
I have contacted British Gas about this and they have confirmed that British Gas will pay ex-Tomato Energy customers who never joined British Gas or have since moved to another supplier, their £150 Warm Home Discount payment via cheque by 31 March.
I hope that helps.
I suggest if you haven't received your cheque by early April, you contact British Gas again.

Hi MSE Clare,
I have a formal complaint in with British Gas at the moment which I esclated to the Executive Team. Unfortunately they advised me "British Gas wouldn't be responsible for receiving the Warm Homes Discount Payment from the DWP as we didn't have an active account set up, due to not being your registered supplier."
I looks like I'm going to have to go to the Ombudsman. British Gas have been a nightmare to deal with. The Warm Home Discount helpline confirmed that they are responsible for honouring this, but British Gas are asking for that in writing from the Warm Home Discount helpline, but they won't put anything in writing. I'm stuck!
