Best way to drive a Toyota Yaris hybrid.
Any tips on how best to drive a Toyota Yaris hybrid. This is my first hybrid. What mode do I need to see coming up on the dashboard for optimal driving.
Thanks.
I’m not technically minded in the slightest.
Thanks.

Having had several Toyota and Lexus hybrids, just stick it in D and let all the electronics that they spent billions of Yen developing it sort it out.

yes, just let the car do its thing, my cross has three different modes but tbh, it doesn’t make a lot of difference, I would recommend joining the Toyota forum, lots of helpful tips and info on there…

Thanks. Just what I needed to hear. I had an Audi A1 before.

I like driving my hybrid in B mode, not D, so that I have "engine braking" when I ease off the throttle.
Toyota mag reckons it's less economical than D mode.

B mode IS NOT designed to be a normal driving mode.

D all the time, B when descending hills to enable some regen braking so you aren't sat on the brakes.
We barely use Eco and Power modes.1 -
Thanks.

That's certainly not sensible advice for driving a Yaris, as explained B is for hill descent. I've used it once, when driving down the very steep hill into Porlock, I wouldn't use it in anything other than the most extreme circumstances.

Toyota Mag, who I hope would know more us, say that the main reason for using D over B is that the fuel consumption would be more. I get pretty good fuel consumption in B and I prefer the driving experience.
The Yaris manual says "If the vehicle is driven continuously in the B position, fuel efficiency will become low. Usually, select the D position." which suggests that, unless you have an issue with the fuel efficiency it's not a big deal. Suggesting it should only be used in extreme circumstances seems exaggerated to me. The manual also describes it's function as "Applying moderate engine braking driving down hills"
I probably should have noted that my hybrid is not a Toyota, it's a Honda. My manual does not have a warning about fuel consumption and says it's for driving down hills and applying engine braking. Obviously the Toyota and Honda systems have their differences. While I expect them to be quite similar you have to apply some judgement to decide what's right for you.
