Travel Insurance for Deposit Amount? - Trip not until June 2028
Looking at an expensive specialist small ship cruise. Full for this year and next, so first availability is not until June 2028. Whilst balance payment is not needed until 100 days before departing (roughly March 2028), the deposit (approx £3,000) will be required at time of booking (at moment we have a provisional hold). Do I have any options for covering ourselves on the deposit amount for the intervening period (until balance due) should we have to cancel? We do not have existing annual travel insurance and hitherto have got cover only when needed. Thank you.

Was the full cost on a per person basis?
Most insurers won't write a policy that far out; maybe some specialists will but they tend to go after very high value customers so may not be interested in a holiday that isnt at least five figures.
The other option would be to get annual policies but make sure you read the terms as some budget policies only cover a holiday that is due to happen during the term of the policy so wouldnt respond to a holiday that will occur after the policy will expire. The other option is to look at packaged travel insurance with a bank account, these often dont have the same concept of a renewal date etc and so lower risk of a far future trip being excluded.

is there insurance available when booking the cruise itself? I know when looking at cruises there is normally an option to add insurance and I believe that would cover you for the standard reasons for cancelling - illness, death etc - but not for just deciding you don't fancy it anymore.
