SP age end-of-life benefits (Form SR1)
Hello!
If someone over SP age is given less than 12 months to live, an application can be made by the appropriate medical professional for fast-tracked attendance allowance using form SR1.
Providing everything is clear cut does anyone know generally how long that process takes?
Thanks.

In my experience, it's usually 2-3 weeks.

Thank you very much, that's very helpful.

Please be aware though that the medical professional just sending the SR1 form will not be enough to get the benefit. You also actually need to make the application for Attendance Allowance.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) generally aims to process "Special Rules" (terminal illness) claims within 2 weeks (10 to 14 days). Recent reports from citizens advice is saying delays up to 3 weeks 21 days.
To ensure there are no delays, make sure the medical professional (GP, hospital consultant, or specialist nurse) has sent the SR1 form directly to the DWP or given you a digital/physical copy to include with the application. If the DWP has the application but is "waiting" for the doctor to send the SR1, the process will stall.

Thanks, and I'll most definitely bear that in mind.

do you actually need to have care needs for an end of life claim for AA/pips or is a diagnosis all that is required?
