Being charged for a name change despite the change being due to marriage

As far as I can see from a quick check, Wizz do allow this free but EasyJet don't:
Name change due to marriage
If you have created a booking but changed the name in your passport due to marriage or divorce, please reach out to us to perform a free change of the surname.
https://www.wizzair.com/en-gb/help-centre/booking-modification/passenger-details-change/name-change
To change a passenger’s name you will need to sign in using the email address and password used to make the original booking. You’ll then be able to view your booking under “View Bookings” and choose which booking you would like to make changes to. You can also do this via our mobile app.
A change fee will be applied per passenger changed, per flight. You can find out more about our charges on our fees and charges page.

This does seem rather harsh. Whilst it's not uncommon for airlines and agents to charge for a name change, charging you the full value of the original ticket (if I have read the thread correctly) does not seem very fair. I have taken a look at their published terms and they do not explicitly cover a name change policy (or cost). This could be used in your favour perhaps as an argument to escalate with their customer service team? IE it is not clearly outlined. Perhaps you can enquire about the cost to cancel and rebook and see if that works out better… I think it might be inevitable that you will need to take some form of hit but hopefully you can appeal to their sense of reason and see if they can apply a discretionary credit/discount of some sort. The policy I found was here:
Out of interest, which airline are you flying with?
Good luck!

The two airlines concerned are mentioned in the post you quoted.

I suspect the thinking is that if they changed a name for less than the ticket cost then scalpers would buy up all the tickets at dirt cheap prices months in advance & then sell them on
