Tv licence question

Hi,
I have a little worry about my tv licence.
I moved to my flat in november.. I've received letters telling me that there was no licence at this address and blah blah... I ignored them.
Today someone knocked at my door and I have the strong feeling it was a tv licence officer.
I didnt open the door but I bought a licence straight away online just in case. I still have to wait 3 working days for the licence to be processed though
Did I do the right thing by purchasing the licence straight away or does it look a bit suspicious if indeed was the officer knocking at my door and me buying the licence?
I don't know what to think

Very suspicious.
However, all you have to do is claim you didn't have equipment capable of receiving transmissions up until the point at which you purchased a licence.

thanks for your your reply.
I'm so worried now. Even if I said is too much of a coincidence that I got the licence on the same day when the officer came:embarasse0 -
The chances are it was not a licensing officer that was at your door anyway. I know of people who have had letter upon letter for years and have never received a visit from them. If it was, maybe you were unlucky in getting a visit but you have now done the right thing and bought a licence anyway.
As chuckles says, if you de receive a visit then claim that you didnt have the equipment that could receive transmissions up until the date you purchased the licence. They would have to prove otherwise......"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I was gonna buy one anyway, I always had one at my previous addresses and those letters I was getting they really annoyed me. The reason I didn't get one earlier is because I know of so many people that they don't pay and they get away with it.. so I guess I wanted to try my luck..
But yeah, if they say anything will tell them that my tv was out of order or something0 -
borderline - if you had a licence at your previous address, was/is it still current? If it was your licence to use TV equipment (rather than of someone else who was living at the address with you), you could have transferred it surely.0

TV Licensing act like they are the law but their nothing more than a bunch of salespeople working for Capita. You don't have to answer the door to them and you don't have to speak to them. If however you do feel the need to speek to these people then I suggest you tell them you only got a Licence when you needed one ie for watching LIVE transmissions.

Bangs head on wall and reminds people you can own a TV without having to own a BBC TV Licence if you make sure it's not turned in to anything live. The BBC has spent so long pushing lies around to scare people now people are actually starting to believe it :mad:0 -

Erm........if it isn't "turned into anything live" then, by definition, it doesn't fall into the category of "equipment capable of receiving transmissions".
Now read that slowly and repeat it back to me. I want to make sure you understood. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

To get a conviction they have to PROVE that you have been watching (or recording) LIVE TV broadcasts without a licence - nigh on impossible !
As Defiant says these are glorified salesthugs with an overestimate of their own importance - tell them to "go away" - they have no legal powers at all - actually, they do, exactly the same as your paper boy !
