Damaged item - multiple failed collections
Hoping someone can advise on an odd situation.
I purchased an oven online in September 2025, from a supplier in Italy. The oven was delivered in November 2025, unfortunately damaged. This was reported to the supplier the same day, who agreed to collect and refund.
They have now failed to collect on 12 attempts, varying from the courier not turning up to the courier arriving in a vehicle that the oven wouldn’t fit in.
I have now managed to secure a refund via my card provider, but I still have the damaged oven. The supplier agreed to use a ‘specialist’ courier who was booked for yesterday and again did not turn up.
At what point can I advise the supplier that I will dispose of the damaged oven?
Thanks for any and all response.

courier arriving in a vehicle that the oven wouldn’t fit in.
Really? Was he on a moped?
"I see there's an oven to pick up, better take the van then..."

What's the value of the item (in its current state)? It's not easy/cheap to do cross-border debt collection so I would have thought it unlikely you'll face any consequences for disposing of it.

You need to be aware that retailer has 45 days from date of chargeback to contest & you would be redebited.
Also if they do not contest, as a chargeback has no legal standing they can go legal to reclaim the money.
In effect they have 6 years.

I would write to them, telling them that they should collect it within 14 days or you will sell it and hold the funds should they wish to claim them in the next six years. That would be the situation in England, I'm not sure how it applies to an Italian business, but at least you will have something to cover you if they pop up in the future demanding the oven.

£800, give or take

You couldn’t make it up, could you - not a moped but a certain courier who uses brown vans couldn’t get it through the door…

Wasn’t aware of that - does that still apply given that they are not UK based?

Not sure, but if you take the belt and braces approach of formally writing to them, it can only help in the unlikely event they come back to you.
Note born_again's point about them reversing the chargeback, which they are entitled to do because you haven't returned the item. How long until the 45 days will have elapsed?

That makes sense - the 45 days still has another 34 to run unfortunately, so I will hold off on any action until then.

It can often take the bank longer than the 45 days to come back to you. So do not think on day 45 all is clear & refund will stay. 👍
