Suzuki Vitara noise

Hi, I’ve just bought a 2018 Suzuki Vitara 1.0 booster jet. I’ve noticed a slight tinny sounding rattle sometimes upon acceleration between maybe 20-60mph. I wondered if anyone might have any ideas what it is? You wouldn’t hear it with the radio on but I’ve noticed it as soon as I drove it from the dealer to home. It is a noise I’ve heard occasionally on other cars so I don’t think it’s an issue specifically to Vitara’s. Any advice welcome.

Some models suffer from a rattling heat shield on the front section (engine end) of the exhaust.

It's held on by clips and they can rattle loose or rust away.

You can see the heat shield here.

If you follow the exhaust from joint with the manifold/catalytic converter, it's around 12 or so inches further along.

If it's that and you can get at it, replace the loose/rusty clips with a couple of stainless steel jubilee clips.

Thanks for your reply. I googled ‘tinny rattling noise when accelerating’ and the heat shield was the first thing that was suggested. If it is that then that’s good news lol and hopefully the dealer will sort it as I’ve only just bought the car.

All the 4th gen Vitara's (LY) have some sort of heat shield on the front section of the exhaust. Both 1.0 and 1.4 Boosterjets and the 1.6 petrol and 1.6DDiS diesels.

So far our 2017 1.6 petrol that we've had from new hasn't suffered but the father in laws 1.4 Boosterjet has and I had a rental last year in Antigua that also suffered badly and drove me mad for two weeks.

Apart for a few very tiny niggles, ours and the father in laws have been solid cars, but both have had rear washer jet issues. The jet is also the non return valve and the ball and spring in the return valve rusts away inside causing the fluid to run back to the reservoir. I guess it might help if you mix the screen wash carefully.

It's around £10 for a new jet (it just twists out) or £2 for a generic inline non return valve. It's easy to get at, it's just behind a small panel with two 10mm nuts on the inside/top/centre of the tailgate.

If you need an parts or service items, try Sims Suzuki parts (on Ebay as well). They are super cheap and reliable.

yes quite a few people have now said it could be the heat shield so I guess I should get that checked out. The only other issue I’m having with the car is a squeak coming from the plastics somewhere around the steering wheel lol
