Easy fix, send whatever it is you want to print to your wife by email attachment and get her to print it.

  • Assuming you're using Windows, try removing the printer from Windows , then add it again. Windows will probably auto detect it anyway and readd it when restarting your computer and the printer is switched on

    Why have a printer?

I started printing to PDF a long time ago

I have a HP printer which I got for £20 to print a specific very long document but that was years ago.

I decided not be to be forced to buy HP ink and a good job I did after I heard about the monopolistic tactics that have been going on in the print industry.

First they started blocking close printer cartridges rather than just saying that they invalidate a warranty.

Next they started blocking refills of their own cartridges.

Recently they started limited the printer to being a paperweight if you use their software, if you install the software they hide a term in there that apparently says but installing the software you authorise them to make it only work with a subscription to HP Ink.

The BBC reported this and got a formal response confirming t. Of course it is not prominently explained before the offer to treat is accepted and it goes against all WEEE and other recycling initiatives and it has to be against EU anti competition laws which transferred to UK until they are revoked.

If I need to print something I can do it at the library but I never have, I find that when I ask companies to accept a PDF they do.

You can get PDF printer drivers, many browsers print to PDF and there are online sites that convert to PDF for free.

With regard to your wife's printer not being online that is surely the driver saying it can't see it, so that means there is a connectivity issue, online can also mean not ready to print, so it might be on but in an error state such as having no ink or a paper block or other issue. You can run print tests from the printer which show it's status, some have an online light.
