What exactly do you mean by "sitting in my account for many years" - are you saying that your spouse transferred their allowance to you many years ago but you haven't seen it being applied to your annual tax calculation?

Can you clarify if you are the one wanting to apply (i.e.to transfer some of your allowance to your spouse) or the one hoping to benefit from the transfer ?
Are you / you spouse already claiming it for the current year ?
You (or your spouse) can apply for backdated claims back to April 6th 2021 by claiming by post - details are here

Thank You So Much for all your responses! To clarify, I have been receiving the Marriage Allowance for more than 4 years, but I would like to know how I can claim my backdated amounts.
Specifically, I want to receive my backdated Marriage Allowance either by cheque or directly into my bank account.
Please guide me on the best way to contact HMRC for this?

If you have been receiving it there is nothing for you to claim.
Maybe you could explain a bit more clearly exactly what you think has gone wrong?

It's not an allowance in the sense of a lump sum payable in cash to you, but simply tax relief that you can use to lower your income tax liability, so its effect should have been shown on your annual tax statements.

Are you earning enough so that the marriage allowance can be rebated from tax paid ? If you do not earn enough you don't get the £252 paid to you, you need to pay enough tax for the credit to be applied to.

Have you read the previous posts above, which explain that this isn't how it works?
