IHT form IHT403

Hi there,

I am looking to keep a record of gifts to make it easier when I die and rather than doing my own excel spreadsheet, I thought I would use Page 7 of the IHT 403 form. I may be starting to become savvy on IHT but my IT skills are sadly lacking….

Is there a way to download the form (obtained from Gov.uk site) without having Adobe? If not, it could well be I have to go for the spreadsheet option as I do not have Adobe and believe you have to pay for installation.

Anyone help?

You only need the paid for version of Acrobat if you want to edit the PDF file. Most browsers will open the file and you can also instal Acrobat Reader on your PC. That means you need to print it off and use a good old pen or pencil to record your gifts.

You only need a very simple spreadsheet to record your gifts especially if you are not looking at gifts from excess income.

Not to side track the original OP question.

I read today that the small gift exemption of £250 per individual has to be given as a single gift?

When you look at HMRC site and read the details it says the value cannot exceed £250 per person in a single tax year. There is no mention that it has to be a one off single gift.

As you need to record this information on the IHT403 form, I would like to ensure I follow the correct rules going forward. At the moment I record each gift value for each individual and stop gifting when we reach the £250 limit. Appreciate any thoughts?

If you use the link on gov.uk (i think, from memory it's with the IHT400 form), the Adobe download is free. Contrary to what it says in the blurb where you download the forms, you can download, edit and save all of the different iht forms...I've just done it myself.
