Ties in with exactly what Martin and many of us here have been saying throughout, doesn't it - that people will choose a tariff based on what they assume must be best, without actually doing the sums. I wonder how many of that 64% were among those who had simply not switched for a long while for various reasons - so the very people that the original price cap was supposed to protect.

I did think maybe the smart meter requirement was so that there could be no debate or accusations of the trial being inaccurate, all the bills being based on actual usage per smart meter readings rather than relying on people to submit their own readings and risking those being infrequent and/or mistaken.

I saw the Martin Lewis Show and I did get slightly excited... until the Ofgen guy mentioned that it was a pilot scheme and open to 150,000 customers.
I'm a very low user. I'm also away from home for 3 months of the year so I'm looking for a low standing charge deal.
I don't think I will wait until April for this pilot scheme as I may not be deemed to be an "eligible customer".
I'm going to switch to the new EDF tracker mentioned by Martin. £100 off standing charges. Not as good as £150 off but available to me now.0 -
It'll identify the holiday home owners, too, which is good. They don't need a free ride.
