PayPal Credit will mark my credit report if I query a transaction?

Hi, I ordered something online from a company with a co.uk website and all seemed fine initially. I paid on PayPal Credit.

Subsequently I received an email which suggested the item was shipping from China. Alarms range and on further investigation I have discovered many threads of various sites about this company providing shoddy goods, not being UK based and non existing refunds. Basically a Chinese drop shipping type of company. Hindsight and all that.

Anyway the items have finally arrived, one doesn't fit, the other is awful. So I've been emailing as this seems to be the only option but I'm being ignored which seems to be their norm.

I was going to dispute the transaction with PayPal Credit, but as I begun the process a message has come up.on there saying if I report this transaction PayPal will put a marker on my credit report. This seems outrageous as the company are scammers and I'm just trying to get my money back, why should this end up going against me on my credit report?

Are PayPal really able to do this?

What basis are you going to dispute the transaction? They are a Chinese company, they do not have to follow UK consumer rights law and offer returns. What is the exact message on the PayPal site?

On what basis are you planning to dispute? If it's quality of goods then paypal will almost certainly expect you to try and return items at your own cost (UK laws don't apply) so you may even struggle to get a resolution from paypal anyway.

This is I suspect one of the most common scenarios we get here, the usual advice, which I echo, is to keep on at the company to try and force a refund - but wait until they make the suggestion of a goodwill gesture from company to drop the matter. Some people have reported a goodwill gesture of up to 30%.

If that fails then I personally wouldn't even bother trying to return, the tracking to delivery will never update and you won't see a penny of any refund unfortunately.

I suppose I'm not so much disputing as trying to see if PayPal will help me get my money back as everyone is saying on Trustpilot and Reddit that they never heard anything back from company

you have paid for the goods and they have arrived. Paypal would help.if they hadn't arrived but they have

You are arguing about quality and want to return them. Is there a returns procedure on their website ? Is it a Chinese addess or UK address? What is the address of the website?

You have to email and ask to return and then they supply the address. I've heard from various forums that it is somewhere in Germany and you are liable for return costs and custom fees.

However apparently they don't seem to respond to a lot of people's returns requests or you send back the shoes and never hear another word. So I'm querying if there is any protection paying with PayPal as it seems not.

Paypal is absolutely fine for UK purchases, or for countries with sensible buyer rights- buying from the Far east though gives very few buyers rights and paypal cannot over ride them.

It is a simple system, item not arrived- full refund if sender can't show delivery. SNAD, if buyer can show item was not exactly as described and prove they have sent item back and have confirmation of delivery. The issue with the Far east is that they will not acknowledge receipt, so paypal will never refund.

No, raising a query or dispute on a PayPal Credit transaction won’t affect your credit report. It’s treated as a customer service issue, not a credit application or repayment problem. Your credit report is only impacted if you miss payments or default on the account, not for simply questioning a transaction.
