how to stop threatening letters - Scottish Power

  • Your mother bought the house. I assume through an estate agent with her solicitor doing the conveyancing?

The Estate Agent will have details of the seller, as will the solicitor. As you know the amount owed and that the letter is from SP and that it is for a period before completion, you have opened the letter. I would firstly ask the solicitor to forward the letter either to the seller's solicitors or to the seller, covered by explaining letter.

I would also ensure you note down a timeline, what and when, photo of letter, note of content of calls. Remember you can request a Subject Access Request from SP for recordings etc. This is for if you need to go to Ombudsman.
