It’s got a new back bumper, it’s a different white so I asked both garages to check for any damage beneath. The cinch approved garage said no damage, the current garage said broken brackets and damage to the wheel well.

Anyone can lift the carpet and check the wheel well in a car - I don't know why people don't do it. It's dead easy to repair a car cosmetically but a wheel well cannot be fixed and will always witness collision damage from a large enough rear shunt.

That said, I doubt there are many ten year old / 3rd / 4th / 5th owner cars on the road that haven't been in some kind of bump.

A wheel well can be fixed, you can buy entire boot floor panels or just the wheel well sections. Went to view a car a while back and it had a towbar
fitted, I asked what electrics it had and the seller really didn't want me to look under the rear of the car.

No obvious crash damage but the rear section of the exhaust had clips and clamps that looked like it had layers of the tin foil dishes you get
    for sale around xmas.

No idea why he thought he was going to get away with that, it would have failed in a very short period. The book of service/repair bills didn't
seem to match the codition of the car.

Lots of cars for sale that have been repaired and that's OK if done properly or the price refelects getting it properly sorted.
