If you have £8000 in Bonds, Questions about transferring out? (Many concerns ! )
If you have £8000 in Bonds, Questions about transferring out? (Many concerns ! )
My friend is a widow, and unemployed, and her husband and her had some Bond stock/shares in some companies.
It was mainly her husband who set them up but she was on the name of one of the bonds - Pru.
Here attached is a 3 page letter of one of her stocks in the company Pru.
(see 3 links below, of the letter pages)
Here is a recent letter she has received, well 2 months ago.
_____________________________
There is one where her bond is worth, £8000.
I am saying a round figure of £8000 for simple purposes.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It says £8000 is a Not a guaranteed cash amount for all time.
Now, she wants transfer the £8000 of bonds into her bank account.
Here are some questions, please answer as many as you possibly can.
a) If you have read them 3 letter on the above link,
does this mean she has £8000 worth of money she can potentially cash in, and transfer to her bank account?
or as it is made up of
- Current Bond value = £4000
- Final bonus = £4000
...then it is only worth £4000 ? and she only has access to £4000 ?
b) What is the procedure?
c) What is the process to take out funds to her bank? (similar to Qu b)
For example, phone the company, tell them to do this process?
d) Are there forms to fill in usually? physical paper forms? or online?
e) From the time she starts the process, how long will the money take to come into the bank account?
f) are there any risks to take this money out? (risks in stocks/shares/the market)
-she is Unemployed
g) How would she know how much she can take out maximum?
h) Would this be a transfer from Pru to her bank account?
i) Would you advise to take it all out? or leave some for a rainy day?
j) Will this amount of money continue to grow? /increase if all £8000 is left in there?
k) From the growth % on the letter, if the £8000 is left in for 5 years, how much would that £8000 increase to in 2 years?
and also in 5 years?
l) Is the amount of money in this scheme for Mary fixed? at at least that £8000 amount? or it can reduce
with stocks and shares in the market?
m) In otherwords will if she leaves the money in this scheme for a few years ,will she definitely get at least £8000?
or with the market/economy and stock prices etc, that £8000 amount could reduce?
n) Since that letter dated 22 December 2025, could that amount of £8000 have reduced and got lower? by any factor ?
(the market, inflation, stock value etc?) or NO it will have been fixed at £8000 as a minimum.
o) How can the amount be checked, so that it is still £8000 since the date of the letter (22 December 2025) which isabout 2 months ago ?
- example she can phone up?
p) How can the widow find out all the stocks/bonds/shares her husband had which would be transferred to her?
I heard there were a few main companies who held this information in the UK?
q) From seeing the letter, is there anything else you can point out? which is important and my friend would need to know ?
She appreciates the letter says you can phone your financial advisor but would like the answers and concern in written format, and some answers might trigger some other helpful information.
Can you please try and answer as many questions as you can,
Can you please give your answers in a) b) c) d) e) f) .....o) p) format order please,
answering 'as many' as you can, thanks xx

Now, she wants transfer the £8000 of bonds into her bank account.
Technically, she wishes to surrender the life assurance bond into her bank account.
The version of bond she has is one of the last good ones issued by the Pru. Low-cost gems you cannot get any more.a) If you have read them 3 letter on the above link,
does this mean she has £8000 worth of money she can potentially cash in, and transfer to her bank account?or as it is made up of
Current Bond value = £4000
Final bonus = £4000

The current value and the final bonus are combined.

d) Are there forms to fill in usually? physical paper forms? or online?
e) From the time she starts the process, how long will the money take to come into the bank account?
They are all linked.
Pru will take instruction over the phone but there are also surrender forms available on their website.
Bank transfer is the method used and will take between 1-5 weeks depending on method and any checks that need to be made.
f) are there any risks to take this money out? (risks in stocks/shares/the market)
-she is Unemployed
Currently, its not included in any means tested benefits. If surrendered, it would be.
i) Would you advise to take it all out? or leave some for a rainy day?
Nobody here can answer that as we don't know the objectives.
j) Will this amount of money continue to grow? /increase if all £8000 is left in there?
yes
k) From the growth % on the letter, if the £8000 is left in for 5 years, how much would that £8000 increase to in 2 years?
and also in 5 years?
The letter is just a synthetic example using a range of assumptions (including an inflation deduction). It is not a forecast. The returns are unknown.
l) Is the amount of money in this scheme for Mary fixed? at at least that £8000 amount? or it can reduce
with stocks and shares in the market?m) In otherwords will if she leaves the money in this scheme for a few years ,will she definitely get at least £8000?
The current value cannot go down but hte final bonus is variable.
o) How can the amount be checked, so that it is still £8000 since the date of the letter (22 December 2025) which isabout 2 months ago ?
example she can phone up?
yes.
