Mains-connected portaloo for long-term use?

The reason is family member having knee pain. Stepping outside is fine but stairs are problematic. Not disability-level pain but just trying to not make it worse.

What about a stair lift instead?

Going to be quite stinky in the hot weather we've been having lately. Neighbours are likely to raise complaints when they catch a whiff of it. Also not a lot of space in most of those plastic portaloos..
One slightly more discrete solution might be a reasonably well insulated shed with a composting or chemical toilet inside. Composting toilets can get a little smelly on hot days, you also have issues with disposing of the waste. And either option would need regular emptying.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Toilet pod could work and sell it when you move in 3-4 years.
Cheaper options available but this looked less like a portaloo

The worst thing for most non-chronic cases of knee pain, is avoidance.
I can't offer medical advice here, only personal experience. Targeted exercise, managed via a person's doctor and physios, often halts deterioration, avoiding or postponing the drift to a surgical solution.

Many thanks. I'll bear that in mind

Hmm, not sure. It changes the look and feel of the house, doesn't it. Also, the family member in question will find it too embarrassing.

I realise this may not suit everyone, you say you would like a downstairs wc but space under stairs does not allow that. Do you have a suitable walk in cupboard into which a waterless urinal could be installed, the cost should not be too expensive as you only need a waste pipe to link up with your present arrangements.
This solution may seem a bit hit and miss but could help cut down amount of journeys needing to go up an down stairs.
