About to move and want to insure my possessions for the move

That's a concern.
Some of the policies aren't very clear. For example, Tesco home insurance simply refers to a "removal company" in their policy on page 35:

Yep, and as others have said there's not really a firm definition of a 'removal company'. Tesco may be happy that any man and van is acceptable, or they may want them to be a member of a professional body (like BAR). You'd need to ask them to find out.

The two criteria our insurer mentioned were an HGV operators licence and membership of a professional body, such as BAR.

I spoke to the customer services team at Tesco Home Insurance, and they said the "man with a van" removal company should be fine, and cover starts from day one, so I've taken out contents insurance, including accidental damage, with them. £100 compulsory excess and £200 voluntary excess, though, as I was quoted over £250 for a year of cover otherwise. I paid £90 for a year of cover.

That's great news - hopefully you don't need to use it!

Is it a new for old policy, if not I'm not sure how much you'd get back after your £300 excess and new 55" TVs are not that expensive.

That's turned out to be true I suppose, though, the "man with a van" guys did damage my leather sofa trying to get it through the door. They even dropped it at one point, causing a few scuffs and scratches to the leather. I asked them if they could make a claim on their insurance, but I have heard nothing, which comes as no surprise.
So, I have had to arrange for leather repair experts to quote me for a repair, which has so far cost me £80 just for an iniital visit to my new home, which probably won't cover the repair costs.
Tesco home insurance won't cover my new home, probably because it is new, so I have had to cancel that policy.
At least my TV is okay.

That's a shame. Proper movers would have wrapped it to stop that happening, but would have cost a good bit more so it's swings and roundabouts really...

I asked them if they could make a claim on their insurance
No, you make a claim against the movers. Whether they settle it via their insurers is their problem (though I expect most or all of it would be their excess anyway).

Yeah, true that. I imagine proper movers would have cost me around a grand or more to move around an hour away. They charged me £540 in total. They charged me for their trip home, which I thought was a bit cheeky.
