Can't Get Contents Insurance - Living in Home of Family Member Rent Free
I own a house outright that I used to share with my adult daughter, & building & contents cover was always in my name.
I moved out some months ago & informed the insurance company of my new address - no issues (except an admin charge)
I tried to renew today, but I can only have the buildings insurance in my name, not the contents as I don't live there (even though most of the contents are mine)
My daughter has tried to get joint cover, but can't get either buildings or contents as she's not a tenant of mine - she lives rent free & covers all bills.
I'm not a landlord so can't get landlord's insurance to cover the contents.
Any ideas about how to get contents insurance?
I can't be the only person who allows a family member to live in a property, can I?

Get a basic lease online for free, or atmost around £10, you can both sign it and it doesn't need to include anything about rent. That way your daughter is officially a tenant and she can get insurance.
If you're concerned, speak to the insurer directly to explain the situation, its very common.
