British Gas

Hi there, I am thinking of obtaining a quote from British Gas for a replacement boiler including installation, I accept they will likely be more expensive than local plumbers but can anyone give any experience of ball park quotes they've had from BG? Cheers

Not exactly answering your question, but you could get a quote from BOXT as a comparison:

I had my boiler replaced by BOXT late last year.

By all means get a quote but going with British Gas knowing they will be more expensive is not money saving.

I would go as far as to say everything about the boiler, installation, and price from BG will be inferior.

  • I got a new boiler from BG in October last year as my old one of 22 years was condemned during its annual service. I also got the hot water tank replaced (180L) and they installed Hive controls which are great as you can operate everything from your phone. I paid a total of 7.5K for the lot and BG were in and out in 2 days. Best decision I ever made.

I wouldn’t bother. They basically send a salesman around to your house and that salesman will then get commission, hence the high price point. They also have pretty bad reviews on trust pilot for overcharging. I had them come around a few months ago to quote me for a new boiler and relocation. Their quote was £5200 vs the £1700 I ended up paying by using a local gas registered plumber.

I wouldn't touch BG with a disinfected barge pole. But then we have history. A new meter leaving a gas leak & trying to charge for the fix, a condemned boiler because they didn't have the right size washer, the local guy fixed in 2 minutes. I could go on but I won't.

Just for fairness when comparing, it is worth saying that £1700 for a new boiler and its installation is right at the low end of what most people can expect.. The average cost seems to be more in the region of £2500 to £3000 and can be as high as £5000 for a complex installation.

So you got a bargain !
