Postal application for saving accounts safe?

Hello .

I recently applied for a postal only saving account, my first one. But on receiving the application pack today, l have cold feet about the process now.

The state of the postal service in my area has taken a nosedive and lve had some shocking conditions of the state of my post. Ripped, dirty, and late.

I really dont like the thought of sending all my info plus cheque through this gauntlet of uncertainty.

Am l being to cautious or paranoid about it all?

The positive side is l can't really remember seeing anything on here about lost application form not arriving.

What is the account offering you that you can't get elsewhere with an online account?

Potentially, nothing - but if you have filled all available online accounts at the same rate then there is a choice to be made over whether to post off for an account paying the same or to open a lower paying online account instead.

Fair enough. I'd be reluctant to have a postal only account so I guess it depends on the potential gain. If its a few quid I wouldn't bother. If were talking hundreds then maybe....

It would be the state of the postal service at the other end which may matter more - the problems you list are more likely at the receiving end. I don't feel the national service is significantly worse than in past years.

I think sending documents to a corporate destination is "safe". They will be receiving lots of post and may have a dedicated delivery.

In times past I had to send off umpteen certificated copies of passports etc before online/real time ID verification came in with no problems. I'd be far more hesitant about the savings group sending them back to me!

The days I do tend to post it at a local rural post office so I know its gone in the mail bag in the office with all the day's stuff and not post it in a local box which again might be emptied today….or maybe not and mine will be the only letter in it to indeed be lost, crumpled etc

Round my way Royal Mail are very obviously bulking up and holding back letters for delivery en mass sometime maybe next week while parcels/jiffy bags from online sellers are prioritised.
