UKPC ticket during 'no parking period'
Hi, I received a letter as the vehicle keeper for a charge on the 27/01/2026 from UKPC. I have read the newbie thread and tried to absorb the info - the letter (and I got a 'final reminder' notice today) look compliant from other UKPC letters on the Forum.
I have left it a bit late since receiving the first letter - should I still email the landlord/group that owns the retail park?
When should I start the POPLA appeals process? Is there a deadline after the date on the letter to do so?
I think my situation may be similar to https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6254277/parking-charge-by-ukpc-for-039-out-of-hours-parking-039-chances-of-success-on-appeal/p3
Although in my case the signs are correct just not lit at night and the gate is not locked.
There are also two parts to this retail park separated by a road and one side with fast food has no restricted hours on the signs but the other side does.

POPLA codes last 33 days.
Not usually worth trying unless you can get persuasive images of unlit signs there in pitch black (not just at dusk).

Definitely Follow Plan A, complaining about it to the retail park etc, its never too late, it's the best option
Plan B is appealing the NTK PCN letter to the private parking company before the 28 day deadline
Plan C is Popla, if UKPC reject Plan B and issue a Popla code to you, popla codes last 33 days

Ok thanks @Gr1pr I will do Plan A now - I presume I can start Plan B at the same time?
@Coupon-mad thanks I have photos of it well after the supposed no parking period with the barriers open, a tree branch in front of the entrance sign (well recessed from the entrance), and half (but not all) the restrictions signs not lit.
I forgot to mention the ticket timings say the car was parked for only 14.5 minutes.1 -
OK, so I would go and skim-read the most recent posts in POPLA Decisions and work your way back a few pages, starting from the latest posts first.
There is a successful POPLA Decision this year or late 2025, similar to this: signs in the dark, car left.
The reason to read actual POPLA decisions is to literally copy the Aseessor's words and phrases about it taking longer to see signs (let alone read terms) in the dark and 'gaining no amenity' from a short 'in and out' event.
Put their own template phrases in and the Assessor should find it harder to refuse an appeal.
