National Disability Card

I applied for this card after seeing a link on the Richmond Council website, otherwise I would have had no idea it existed. It costs a nominal approx £20 per annum & runs for 2 years. I am a blue disabled badge holder & was looking for id to carry when parking with my blue badge & leaving it in the car windscreen. You have to prove you are registered disabled, via benefits or like me having a blue badge, I'm not on any benefits. Also if you are a carer for a disabled person including children, you can apply for a carers id card. It's not a government scheme, yet, I think it should be! I use it for ID it's also a discount card for stacks of places, even Disneyland & Airlines, shops, etc. Head over to National Disability Card.co.uk website & take a look. I carry mine in my bag on a lanyard which you can also buy, it's the size of a photo driving licence card. You can't really lose, I am a member & just thought I would bring it to people's attention. Thanks for reading my post!

    Hi Goldhawk

There are various ID card schemes around.

A lot of attractions are now moving away from PIP and Blue badge being evidence for needing an essential companion/ carer ticket or assistance. I am seeing it more now and they either have their own schemes or are moving toward the Access card that assesses medical evidence and assigns symbols to state the persons disability access needs eg difficulty with standing, crowds, wheelchair user, number of essential companions, accessible loo, etc. so more detail beyond having a PIP award or blue badge.

My understanding of the National Disability card is its an alternative to carrying your PIP letter or blue badge with photo ID and for some situations you may still need to apply to attractions scheme or an access card. eg legoland, some zoos etc only accept Access cards or there own free scheme

Access is £20 for three years i think.

Like you i really wish there was a national scheme.. if i trusted the government and PIP they could issue one at same time but not convinced they are capable of doing this fairly.
