Praise for Octopus Energy
I received a surprise email from my energy provider today, Octopus Energy:
"…
As part of the Warm Home Discount Industry Initiative Scheme 2025/26, we’re providing you with £150.00 of additional support towards your energy account. …"
The £150 had already been paid into my account yesterday. This is a lovely surprise, is much appreciated and is really welcome in this very cold weather.

According to the MSE guide in E&W you should get it automatically. In Scotland you need to apply.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid2 -
I live in Scotland. I didn’t know that England & Wales did not have to apply.

This £150 payment from Octopus Energy is in addition to the already received Warm Home, Broader Group, Scotland £150.
I had to apply for the Broader Group payment and was grateful to be awarded it and received it in December.
This £150 payment from Octopus Energy is an additional, not applied for, unexpected and very much appreciated payment added to my energy account. It was added to my account and I received an email telling me about it the next day.

This happened to someone I know and when they called to query the credit (they didn't want to have to repay it further down the line), they were told it was surplus money from the funds they (Eon) had set aside for WHD which were then divided amongst recipients. In their case it was £75.

I thought it was the Govt who funds all these discounts, not the energy supplier? They just administer the discount.

No it’s funded by the energy suppliers via a levy on all bills.
