Okay, so according to Reddit and Perplexity, the situation seems to be something along the lines of:

    • HMRC allows repayment or waiver (remission) of customs duty where you reject imported goods because they were damaged or did not meet the contract, provided the goods are re‑exported or destroyed and certain conditions are met.
    • Remission can apply both where duty has already been paid (repayment) and where it is only being demanded (waiver).
    • In your case, the seller has accepted the goods were not acceptable (they refunded you) and told you to dispose ofthem, which fits the “rejected imports to be destroyed” scenario in HMRC guidance.
    • The advice they give is to advise the courier to seek remission from HMRC

Unless anyone knows differently, I'll find some contact details for Fed-ex and go with that.

Wont apply to the FedEx charge.

So - did you report the damage to FedEx or did you tell the shipper and the shipper will claim? The shipper should tell FedEx that this should have been DDP (delivered duty paid) as its the shippers declaration that FedEx follow.

Even if it is destroyed, there is a charge if FedEx have to resubmit (its complicated as to why) but I would be pushing back to your shipper - only they can really fix the problem.

Third party seller and if you click the name it shows they are in Poland

Goods over £150 so the importer not the seller or market place are responsible for the taxes. It says on their sellers page that those outside the EU will be responsible for the taxes
