Help - Leeds Train Station Parking Fine

1000038251.jpg

Hello, I’m looking for some advice about a private parking charge I’ve just been chased for.

In September I briefly stopped at Leeds Train Station to drop someone off. I was stationary for less than 10 seconds while they got out of the car. I didn’t park, leave the vehicle, or switch the engine off.

In November I received a letter from Trace saying I owed £170 for an unpaid parking charge. This was the first I’d heard of it — I never received the original Notice to Keeper. I moved house in September and updated my V5C within two weeks, so I can only assume the first notice went to my old address.

I’ve now received a letter from Moorside Legal. I called to explain that I never received the original notice due to the address change, but they told me I can no longer appeal and that my only option is to set up a payment plan.

Is that really true? It feels unreasonable to be charged £170 for stopping for a few seconds, especially as Leeds Station didn’t have these “no stopping” rules the last time I used it in 2024.

Any advice on whether I still have grounds to challenge this would be really appreciated.

Plenty of similar threads about UKCPS at that location on here

Ignore that letter and wait for the the next one, followed by the court claim, those 2 will need dealing with

    Do not pay

Yep read some exact same Moorside threads.

Wait for the LoC. That isn't it.

Is there any updates on this? Had the exact same letter from Moorside Legal on the 29th for the same incident. Also had text messages from them saying final notice on 24th Feb. Is it just a waiting game now until the next step? What are the stages I will have to go through next and is it worth it? Or will there even be any next steps or will they just give up?

And read post 2 of the NEWBIES FAQS thread to see the easy peasy defence process.

Having picked someone up from Leeds station on Friday these cameras are having the exact negative effect expected. They are causing traffic (especially private hire vehicles, where word will have got round about the invoice zone) to now not enter the station drop off area at all.

As a result the taxis now park on the main station approach roads to pick up and drop off, causing severe traffic congestion. Its mad when there is railway owned roadway which could be used by all.

@grasshopper98 please come back and reassure us that you DIDN'T set up a payment plan?

    Nobody pays UKCPS or Moorside.
